“The remote control means the operator doesn’t have to stay at the truck. He can stand in the foundation and watch exactly where the material is landing — and on slab prep, that’s the difference between close enough and right.”
The Project Story
This custom home is being built high in the hills above Cannon Beach, with a direct view of Haystack Rock and the Pacific. The foundation is cut into a steep hillside, and with a slab pour coming up, the base material needed to be placed right — ¾” minus crushed rock, compacted in lifts, no shortcuts.
The excavation contractor had material staged on site and an excavator in position. What they needed was a placement method that could keep pace and land material precisely enough for slab prep. S1 staged on the road above. The excavator loaded our truck continuously. The operator climbed into the foundation cut and used the remote control to direct placement while the crew compacted behind him in lifts.
The excavator fed us. We placed. The operator watched every pass from inside the cut. The crew compacted as it landed. From pile to slab-ready foundation, the operation didn’t lose a step.
